Enbridge is proposing a number of expansion projects to promote a North American solution to energy reliability and security of crude petroleum supply. The expansion projects in Minnesota include:
Southern Lights, a liquid petroleum pipeline from Chicago through Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta to bring light hydrocarbons, or “diluents,” to Edmonton for distribution to the oil sands area of northern Alberta. This project also involves the construction of LSr, a 20-inch crude oil pipeline from Cromer, Manitoba, to Clearbrook, Minn., to replace the capacity of an existing Enbridge line that will be reversed to transport diluent.
Alberta Clipper, a new crude oil pipeline from Hardisty, Alberta to Superior, Wis., that will, if approved, increase capacity of our system by 450,000 barrels per day (bpd) and later be expandable up to 800,000 bpd. Click here for images related to construction of the Alberta Clipper Project.
North Dakota System Expansion Phase 6, an expansion of the North Dakota System, referred to as NDSE6, will increase pipeline capacity from 110,000 bpd to approximately 161,600 bpd of delivery capacity into the Enbridge Clearbrook Terminal in Clearbrook, Minn. NDSE6 is scheduled to be complete in early 2010.
Southern Lights and Alberta Clipper will involve construction of new pipeline in Minnesota, and the NDSE6 includes upgrades at three existing pump stations in Minnesota.
Throughout construction and operation, these projects will bring economic development to Minnesota communities through the form of job opportunities and increased tax revenue that will support schools, infrastructure development and other state operations.
