Program Benefits

The program will provide the following benefits:

  • Capacity will be available when needed to transport readily available crude oil supplies from a secure, stable North American source to U.S. Midwest markets.
  • New capital investment in North America's energy infrastructure to help meet the energy needs of this and future generations.
  • Integration with Enbridge's existing and expanding mainline system provides for balancing of capacities downstream of Superior, Wis.
  • Expansions, up to 800,000 bpd, can be done efficiently and in staged increments to synchronize with market needs.
  • Employment for construction professionals and new business for contractors hired to assist in the design, survey, environmental assessment and project planning process.
  • Local economic stimulus through the purchase of products and services from local retailers, and housing and food for pipeline professionals and contractor employees during the construction process.
  • Additional employment and economic activity during future pipeline operations.
  • Shipping tolls will be pre-determined and set for the length of the term, providing a toll certainty for those customers that are prepared to make a long-term commitment.
  • Tolls competitive with Enbridge mainline to the mid-continent.
  • The system will accommodate growth in heavy bitumen crudes as well as synthetic crudes.
  • The project timing will be triggered when needed by shippers, thereby mitigating the impact of an underutilized facility.
  • Shippers will have access to multiple delivery points and storage options associated with the Enbridge mainline system.
